LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Occidental women's volleyball fell to Azusa Pacific 3-1 on Tuesday, September 22 in the program's first meeting with the Cougars as they transition to NCAA Division III – they'll become full members at the beginning of the 2028-29 season.
Set scores were 16-25, 14-25, 29-27 and 16-25 . The Tigers are the first Division III opponent the Cougars have faced to earn a set off of them.
The Tigers got off to a hot start, taking an 8-7 lead in the set.
Audrey Makler, the inaugural TigertownTV Player of the Week on September 6, hammered down two kills during that span.
APU took control as the set wore on, going on an 8-1 run over the next nine points. The Cougars put together some impressive offense highlighted by their powerful swings from the outsides.
It was more of the same in the second as the Cougars took the middle frame convincingly.
The Tigers looked strong in the early parts of the third set. Oxy went on a 6-2 run and traded points to keep the score tied.
Anna Curtis-Revelle was active at the net, notching three kills and a block through the sets first 16 points.
Azusa Pacific created some separation, but the Tigers battled back to take a 21-19 lead behind a flurry of
Sloane Shoop kills – she had six in the frame alone. The Tigers kept battling, halting four APU match points before winning the decisive 29
th point of the frame.
The fourth set was all Cougars, leading by as many as 12 in the match clinching frame.
Shoop led the team with 13 kills. The team totaled 20 blocks with Curtis-Revelle posting a team-high seven block assists.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, September 26 at home, taking on the reigning national runners-up, La Verne at home at 4 p.m.
