WHITTIER, Calif. — Occidental drew with Whittier 1-1 on Wednesday night in a SCIAC matchup. After a scoreless first half, both teams scored once in the second half. Occidental put two of its three shots on goal and recorded one save, while Whittier finished with five shots and two on frame.
Occidental kept Whittier off the board in the first half, with
Carlos Abram starting in goal and Whittier struggled to create opportunities as their recorded chances all missed the frame.
The Tigers' recorded look came in the 13th minute, when
Piero Falconi Pujalt put a header high, and
Andrew Lee followed with Occidental's corner kick at 17:23. Whittier generated three recorded shots and one corner in the half, but neither side scored, sending the match to halftime at 0-0.
Occidental pulled the match even in the 68th minute when Falconi Pujalt scored with a header off a corner kick to even the match at 1-1. Earlier, Whittier had gone in front on a Jack Hindmarsh goal assisted by Jack Born.
After the equalizer, Oxy nearly grabbed the go-ahead goal when
Gianni Simamora put a shot on frame at 71:26, but Diego Saldivar made the save to preserve the tie. Abram answered with a save on Fabian Gluch's shot in the 80th minute, and the game would end with the score still tied 1-1.

Occidental is now 3-2-2 overall and 1-0-2 in SCIAC play. They will be back on the pitch on Saturday, September 26th when they travel to take on the Azusa Pacific University Cougars at 7:00 PM.
