LOS ANGELES, Calif. — No. 8 Occidental lost to No. 6 Cal Lutheran 11-8 on Wednesday. Occidental matched Cal Lutheran's scoring totals in each of the first two quarters, but was outscored 7-4 across the final two quarters.
Loron Washburn opened the scoring for Occidental at 2:46 of the first quarter before Cal Lutheran answered with Paul Patterson's penalty goal at 2:03.Â
Occidental started the second quarter with three straight goals, getting scores from
Danny Miller at 6:21 off a
Jack Davis assist,
Max Sauers at 5:43 from
Atticus Wahab-Holles and
Lars Schubert on a penalty shot at 4:54. Cal Lutheran responded with three consecutive goals later in the second quarter, including two from Levi Cook at 4:24 and 2:30 and one from Adam Scrivner at 1:37.Â
The teams traded early third-quarter goals, with Schubert converting another penalty shot at 7:19 and
Nicholas Karamian scoring at 5:44 for Occidental, before Cal Lutheran scored the final two goals of the quarter.Â
Adam Scrivner scored for Cal Lutheran at 6:50 of the fourth quarter, but Occidental answered with
Jake Eulenhoefer's power-play goal at 5:33 from Wahab-Holles and Karamian's second goal at 5:00. The Kingsmen pulled away in the fourth with two late goals after the Tigers closed the gap to just one.
Karamian scored two goals on five shots and collected two steals. Schubert added two goals on four shots with a steal. Wahab-Holles recorded two assists, a steal and one shot.
