PASADENA, Calif. — Occidental swept Caltech 3-0 on Tuesday, winning 25-19, 25-18, 25-14 at Braun Athletic Center. Occidental hit .189 with 39 kills and held Caltech to an .008 hitting percentage.
Occidental created separation in the opening set with a 6-0 run from a 1-1 tie to a 7-1 lead, capped by
Chloe Jeong serving five straight points with two aces. Caltech cut into the margin during the set, but Occidental kept answering with kills from
Sloane Shoop,
Anna Curtis-Revelle and
Jasmine Shum before closing out the set 25-19.
Occidental erased an early 2-0 deficit in the second set, tying it on a
Corinne Van Haeren-Curtis-Revelle block and moving ahead on a
Sloane Shoop kill.
Eyleen Sanchez followed with an ace as Occidental built a 5-2 edge, and Van Haeren, Shoop and
Jasmine Shum added kills as the visitors maintained separation. Occidental closed the set 25-18 on Shoop's kill from Sanchez.
Occidental broke open the third set with Curtis-Revelle serving, scoring five straight points from 14-11 to 19-11 behind her ace, a
Jasmine Shum kill and Caltech attack errors. The Tigers later finished the set on
Elizabeth Hermosillo's serve, getting back-to-back
Sloane Shoop kills before Hermosillo's ace closed a 25-14 set win.
