Tom Jansen

Thomas Jansen enters his first year as the Occidental Swimming and Diving Assistant Coach. Jansen brings with him five years of collegiate swimming experience and coaching experience at the club and summer recreational levels for the USA Swimming Club - Walnut Creek Aquabears (three years) and the Lafayette Moraga Youth Association (one year). He brings great passion for the sport and is familiar with what it takes to succeed at the SCIAC and DIII levels. He is excited to join the Oxy Swim and Dive family and hopes to stress the importance of building strong connections with teammates, coaches, and faculty that lead to student-athlete success in the pool and the classroom. 

Before graduating from the University of Redlands with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (2022) and a Certificate in Human Resources Management (April 2023), Jansen reset his own program records in the 1000 yd. and 1650 yd. freestyle events at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships placing 9th overall and earning 2nd Team All-American status. He also currently holds the University of Redlands Thompson Aquatic Center Pool Record in the 1000 yd. freestyle as well as ranking 3rd in program history in the 500 yd. freestyle and 5th in the 800 yd. freestyle relay. 

He was a 5x Redlands Scholar-Athlete, 5x SCIAC All-Academic selection, 7x Dean’s List recipient, 1x NCAA 2nd Team All-American, 3x CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American, 1x CSC Academic All-District selection, 1x All-SCIAC selection (2022-23; 1650 freestyle), and the University of Redlands Frank Serrao Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 school year. He then went on to represent Redlands as their nominee for the SCIAC/Division III Commissioners Association Men's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year.
