2013: Spent Spring Semester studying abroad in Sydney, Australia...Named to American Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic Team...Finished second on the team with 53 goals in 26 games played.  Added 10 assists and 28 steals on the season...Recorded sixth hat-trick of the season with three goals against Whittier College on Oct 6...Tallied 10 goals in four games at Inland Empire Classic...Recored three hat-tricks in four games at Lancer Invite.

2012: Finshed the season with 55 goals, third best on the team...Added 27 assists and led team with 37 steals.

2011: Finished the season with 32 goals in 32 games...Had 19 assists and 24 steals...Drew 16 exclusions...Earned Oxy's Rookie of the Year Award. 

High School - In high school, Akiyama primarily played waterpolo for the Aptos High School Marines. 

Personal - Sam was born in Watsonville, California to parents Patricia and Benjamin... has one sister, Amanda... hopes to attend medical school.
