Joe Perrino joined Oxy athletics in September 2024 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications after spending over two years as the Assistant Sports Information Director / Recreation Sports Manager at fellow SCIAC institution Chapman University.

At Occidental, Perrino oversees all facets of athletic communications for each of the Tigers' 20 varsity programs — statistics reporting, live stream production, digital and social content creation and more. He heads Oxy Athletics' gameday operations, hiring and supervising a robust student-worker staff and the departments athletic communications assistants.

Perrino has spearheaded a revamp of the college's athletics live streaming under the SCIAC's FloSports deal. He and the athletics communications team produces multi-camera live streams with commentary and replay for hundreds of events annually. In 2026, Perrino was selected as a finalist for the inaugural FloCollege CSC Spotlight Award. He was one of 18 finalists across 203 institutions that work with FloSports.

While at Chapman, Perrino oversaw and assisted in all facets of athletic communications for the university’s 23 sports. He managed all social media outlets and graphic design and assisted in the growth of the institution’s athletics live streams. He also assisted in the planning and execution of the annual ‘Night of Champions’ – the Chapman Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony – and the Student-Athlete Awards.

Before his time with the Panthers, Perrino spent seven months with the University of La Verne as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant. Perrino assisted in all aspects of athletic communications with the Leos and led the Sports Information department through the winter season.

Perrino entered the athletic communications field as an undergraduate intern with Chapman and worked on the student-run newspaper for his final two years at the university. He graduated from Chapman with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies in 2021 and earned a Master of Arts in Leadership Development from Chapman in 2024.

He is a member of College Sports Communicators and has served on the Job Seekers’ committee.
