LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2007) –
The Tigers played well, but the Bulldogs played better today as
they University of Redlands defeated Occidental College 1-0 on the
Lower Soccer Field.
A blank halftime scoreboard turned 1-0 in
favor of the Bulldogs when Alex Parker scored on a feed from Bryan
Fakkema for the only offense of the game.
Oxy goalkeeper Alex Combs was
busy as he recorded 10 saves on Redlands' 17 shots. The
Tigers managed to get 10 shots off but were unsuccessful in finding
a hole. UR goalie Anay Roroff made five saves.
The junior pair of Fran
Taylor and Ben Waters as well as freshman
Rob Riccardi each got two shots off in the game.
For the Bulldogs Max Bowman and Ross Schunk each had three shots.
Redlands took five corner kicks while
Occidental had just three opportunities.
The University of Redlands improves to 13-2
overall and sits tied atop the SCIAC with Cal Lutheran as both
teams are 10-1 in SCIAC play. Occidental falls to
5-8-1, 4-6-1 in fifth place among SCIAC
teams.
Oxy will be back in action Saturday when they
host the Stags from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for an 11:00 a.m. SCIAC
kickoff on D.W. Patterson Field.
