Just over two minutes into overtime a cross
from Grace Reinhalter found the head of
Jesi Sasaki who pushed the ball into the right
corner of the goal for the game winner Wednesday at Farquhar Field
on the campus of the University of Redlands.
The Tigers, who trailed 1-0 at the break came
out with all cylinders firing in the second half. In the
78th minute senior forward Adrienne
Spivak scored on a pass from Moe Kishida
to tie the game at 1-1. The Occidental defense held the Bulldogs
scoreless, sending the game into an extra frame.
Oxy took two shots and held Redlands to none
in overtime. Freshman keeper Robin Feldman blocked
five shots for Occidental. Her counterpart, Tenley Rawlings, made
seven saves for Redlands.
Reinhalter and Kishida both provided offensive
support from the bench and each took two shots.
Overall the Bulldogs out shot the Tigers 19-17
and took five corner kicks to the Tigers' one. Occidental was
called for seven fouls and Redlands finished with six.
With the win Occidental improves to 8-4, 7-2
in SCIAC play while Redlands falls to 7-4-3, 5-3-1.
Saturday the Tigers will travel to
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to take on the SCIAC leading Athenas (9-1)
who hold a 12-4 overall mark. Kickoff will be at 11:00 a.m.
