LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2007) –
Ten players appeared in orange and black for the final time on the
campus of Occidental College and they made the most of the
opportunity by going out with a win. Oxy defeated
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 2-1 on D.W. Patterson Field for their sixth
SCIAC win of the season.
Junior midfielder Ben Waters
concluded his third year as a Tiger (he is on a 3-2 program with
Columbia) with the first goal of the game at the 28:12 mark to give
Oxy a lead.
After the break the Stags tied things up when
Toby Stopper found the back of the net in the 56th
minute. Nine minutes later senior Alfie Berumen
found junior Fran Taylor for the winning goal in
the 65th minute of play.
Senior Oxy keeper Chris
Westman made six saves in his first start of the season
and CMS goalie Alex Price blocked five shots.
The teams exchanged 11 shots and CMS tallied
nine corner kicks to the Tigers' one. Five yellow cards were
issued in the game, three to the Stags and two to Tigers players.
The win pulls Occidental's record
closer to .500 as they improve to 6-8-1, 5-6-1 in SCIAC play. The
Stags overall record falls to 6-7, 6-5.
Occidental currently remains in fifth
place among the eight SCIAC teams and still have a slight chance at
advancing to the First Annual SCIAC Post Season Tournament to
determine the SCIAC representative in the Playoffs.
Wednesday, Oct. 24 the Tigers will travel to
Thousand Oaks to face the Kingsmen who are currently 10-2 in second
place in the conference. Kickoff will be at 4:00
p.m. on North Field.
