LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 12,
2007) – A pair of freshman provide the Tigers with all
the offense they would need as Occidental opened Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0
victory over the University of La Verne on the Lower Soccer Field
today.
Jesi Sasaki scored a pair of
goals for the Tigers and Corinne Winkler found the
back of the net for the first time as a Tiger. Sasaki's first
came in the 13th minute of play, marking her first
collegiate goal. She added an insurance goal in the 71st
minute for the third and final goal of the game.
Occidental took 10 shots while La Verne only
had two. Tiger players had five corner kicks and the Leopards had
just one.
In front of the cage Melissa
Warner made one save and Robin Feldman
saw some action but had no save chances.
Occidental now stands at 2-1, 1-0 SCIAC as La
Verne remains winless as they fall to 0-4, 0-1 SCIAC.
The Tigers have a week free from games before
traveling to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4:00 p.m. for
their second SCIAC game of the season.
