Freshman Duo Leads Tigers Past La Verne

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 12, 2007) – A pair of freshman provide the Tigers with all the offense they would need as Occidental opened Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 victory over the University of La Verne on the Lower Soccer Field today.

Jesi Sasaki scored a pair of goals for the Tigers and Corinne Winkler found the back of the net for the first time as a Tiger. Sasaki's first came in the 13th minute of play, marking her first collegiate goal. She added an insurance goal in the 71st minute for the third and final goal of the game.

Occidental took 10 shots while La Verne only had two. Tiger players had five corner kicks and the Leopards had just one.

In front of the cage Melissa Warner made one save and Robin Feldman saw some action but had no save chances.

Occidental now stands at 2-1, 1-0 SCIAC as La Verne remains winless as they fall to 0-4, 0-1 SCIAC.

The Tigers have a week free from games before traveling to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4:00 p.m. for their second SCIAC game of the season.
