LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2007) –
In the first 30 seconds of the game you knew it was going to be a
physical one as two fouls were called during that span. A
competitive contest from both the Kingsmen and Tigers led to a 1-0
final in favor of visiting California Lutheran University in
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play
tonight at D.W. Patterson Field today.
A swarm of purple and white jerseys flooded
the front of the Occidental cage in the 71st minute when
Cal Lutheran junior forward Greg Young found an open lower right
corner of the net for the only score of the game.
The Kingsmen took nine total shots to the
Tigers' four and the teams had four and three corner kicks
respectively.
CLU was called for 15 fouls while Oxy totaled
17 and four yellow cards were handed out, all in the second half
and within seven minutes of each other.
In front of their respective cages
Alex Combs (Oxy) and Chris Thompson (CLU) finished
with two and one blocks.
The loss drops the Tigers to 3-6 overall, 2-4
in SCIAC play while the Kingsmen improve to 8-3, 5-1.
Occidental will host Whittier College on
Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. on the Lower Soccer Field. WC is the only
SCIAC team the Tigers haven't faced yet. The Poets enter the
game with a 1-7-1 overall, 1-4-1 SCIAC record.
