THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2007) –
The Occidental College women's soccer team was out shot by
the California Lutheran University Regals 14-9 but was able to
score twice late in the game to give them their fourth win in
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action
today at North Field on the campus of CLU.
Occidental freshman Grace
Reinhalter scored her first collegiate goal in her first
collegiate game, giving the Tigers all the offense they would need
on this day. The score came in the 72nd minute of play.
Also finding the back of the net for the
Tigers was fellow freshman Carly Wachi who
received an assist from another freshman Jesi
Sasaki and extended the lead to 2-0 at the 82:44 mark.
CLU had its best opportunity to score when Sarah Rickert's
shot attempt nailed the left goalpost and ricocheted back out into
the field of play. Danielle Balderrama booted the rebound and
missed just to the right of the goal as they were unable to tie the
1-0 game.
Occidental improves to 5-2 overall, 4-1 in SCIAC play while Cal
Lutheran falls to 2-6-2, 1-2-2.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they
travel to Whittier to play the Poets at 7:00 p.m. on the Graham
Soccer Field.
