LOS
ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2008) – On a breezy, yet very warm
Southern California Wednesday afternoon the Occidental College
Tigers and University of Redlands Bulldogs needed more than
regulation to determine a winner. Oxy held off UR by the slimmest
of margins notching a 1-0 victory in an exciting overtime SCIAC
game on the Lower Soccer Field.
In
this low scoring affair every possession was crucial. Although
Redlands held the advantage statistically heading into halftime
with six shots to the Tigers' four and five corner kicks to
just one for the home team, the score was still
scoreless.
Occidental came out at halftime with a sense
of urgency and quickly shifted the momentum with 11 shots on goal
in the second period while limiting the visiting Bulldogs to just
six.
Elise Devereux (four shots)
and Season Falker-Rodriguez (three shots) led the
attack but it was Ali Caditz who made the most of
her one shot, scoring the game winning goal in the 90th
minute.
Redlands was led by Hadley Bowers, who took
three shots, but came up empty even despite holding a huge
advantage with eight corner kicks to just two for the
Tigers.
Occidental made the most of their
opportunities and was anchored defensively by
goalie Robin
Feldmanwho came up with eight saves, including a
key save on a penalty kick late in the second half to keep the game
scoreless. Redlands goalie Tenley Rawlings
was equally impressive with six saves.
Oxy
improves to 2-4 overall, 2-2 in SCIAC play while Redlands falls to
6-2-1, 3-1.
The
Tigers will be back on the field Saturday, Oct. 4 when they host
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Patterson Field at 11:00
