WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2008) – In their
second and final meeting of the season the Occidental College
Tigers defeated the Whittier College Poets 4-0, marking the second
shut out in as many meetings during Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this season, outscoring WC
9-0.
Oxy
looked to four different Tigers to find the back of the net in the
win.
Junior defensive specialist
Marci Kang got Oxy on the board in the 29th
minute for the ultimate winning goal, marking the only score of the
first half.
In
the second stanza Occidental came out firing, scoring in the
53rd, 63rd and 85th
minutes.
Midfielder
Corinne Winkler then scored her team-leading fifth goal of
the season on an assist from Moe
Kishida to give Oxy a 2-0 advantage early in the
second half. Season
Falkler-Rodriguez and Lauren
Sawchenko each scored her first goal of the season in
the game as well.
Oxy
goalie Robin Feldman
recorded three saves in
90 minutes of action.
With the win the Tigers improve to 4-5
overall, 4-3 in SCIAC play.
Wednesday afternoon Oxy will travel to the
University of La Verne for a re-match with the Leopards. In their
first meeting of the season the Leos held off the Tigers and handed
them a 3-2 loss. Teams will kick-off at 4:00 p.m.
