CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 22, 2008)
– An early 1-0 lead was squandered by the
Tigers as they fell to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens by a 2-1 final in
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action
today on the road.
Freshman James Kornfield
scored the only goal for the Tigers in the 39th minute
to take a one goal advantage into halftime. His shot from 20-yards
out found its way past PP goalie Charlie Balter, who made five
saves in the game.
In the 51st minute of play Zach
Mirman tied the game at 1-1 before he put the Hens up 2-1 on a
cross from Harry Hanson for the game winner in the 62nd
minute.
PP outshot Oxy by a large 17-9 margin and
earned 11 corner kicks to the Tigers' six.
Freshman goalie Andrew Larkin
made seven saves in 90 minutes.
Occidental drops to 6-6-2, 6-4-1 SCIAC while
PP improves to 7-5-3, 5-5-3. Despite the loss the Tigers were able
to move up the SCIAC ladder into the second place spot behind
Redlands, who clinched the SCIAC Title with a 5-0 win over
Whittier. Oxy currently holds a one point advantage over
Pomona-Pitzer (5-3-3), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-3-3) and Cal
Lutheran (6-5) who are all tied with 18 points.

the Post Season Tournament. The winner of the Tournament receives
an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Post Season.
Oxy will be home on Saturday, Oct. 25 to host
the undefeated University of Redlands (10-0-1) Bulldogs at 11:00
