LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2008) –
For the final time of the 2008 regular season, eight Tigers took
the field wearing black and orange, a uniform that some of them
pulled on for four years. Unfortunately Occidental fell to the
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags 2-0 on the Lower Soccer Field this
afternoon.
Just over 13 minutes into the game Oxy goalie
Alex Combs blocked a shot by Ryan Weaver, but
being on the ground left the net wide open for Ian Anderson who
scored the ultimate winning goal for CMS.
Oxy appeared to tie the game at 1-1 late in
the first half, but the whistle quickly blew and the Tigers had
been called for offsides, negating the goal.
After the break CMS added a second goal in the
69th minute when Weaver scored unassisted to round out the scoring
on both sides.
While the game got physical at the end,
Occidental played the final minute and a half down a man after a
red card was issued.
James Kornfield led all
players with six shots, three on goal.
Combs finished with five saves while allowing
two goals before Andrew Larkin took over at 75:05.
Larkin recorded two saves for the Tigers.
The Tigers fall to 6-8-2, 6-6-1 SCIAC and hold
on to fifth place in the standings. There is a slight chance that
Oxy will advance to the SCIAC Post Season Tournament, but the
Tigers would have to defeat Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer would
have to fall to Caltech on the final day of season play.
Occidental will face the Kingsmen on the West
Soccer Field at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Thousand
Oaks.
