THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2008) –
On the final day of the 2008 regular season both the men's
and women's soccer teams suffered season ending defeats to
Cal Lutheran University with the men falling by a score of 5-2 on
the road while the Tigers women were shutout 1-0 on Patterson Field
in their final home game of the year.
At the home of the black and orange senior
Starlie Chinen was recognized prior to the game as
the lone senior for Oxy.
The Regals posted the only goal of the game in
the 68th minute when senior Lauren Hess found the back
of the net on an unassisted score to give CLU (10-7-3, 7-4-1 SCIAC)
the victory. Cal Lutheran claimed a second place finish in the
conference and will head to the Post Season Tournament with the
hopes of representing the SCIAC in NCAA post season play for the
second consecutive year.
Occidental's women finished with a 6-9
overall record and a 5-7 SCIAC record for a sixth place finish in
the conference.
In Thousand Oaks, the men's team saw
themselves at a 3-0 deficit after the first half as CLU scored in
the fourth, 23rd and 45th minutes.
Occidental clawed back with a pair of goals
just after the break when senior Fran Taylor
scored the first on a one-on-one opportunity after receiving the
ball from Deryck Lim at the 50:20 mark. Lim then
added a goal of his own 12 minutes later after recovering the
rebound from his own blocked shot to cut the CLU lead to 3-2.
The Kingsmen would respond with another pair
of goals in the final 28 minutes with the final goal coming from
CLU senior Josh Moskowitz who nailed a cross to the far side net,
notching his seventh goal of the season, adding to an assist he had
earlier in the game.
The Tigers finished the season with an 6-9-2
overall record and just under .500 in the SCIAC at 6-7-1 for a
sixth place finish.
