ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2008) – In the opening conference
meet of the season the Occidental College men's swimming and
diving team recorded a 124-92 victory over Cal Lutheran
University.
The
men were led by Jeven Dovey who
opened his junior campaign as the high scorer for the Tigers as he
claimed three victories on one relay and in two individual events.
The Tacoma, Wash. native kicked the meet off with the second leg,
breaststroke (1:07.78), on the winning 400 yard Medley Relay team
before swimming to victory in the 200 yard IM (2:06.96) and 100
breaststroke (1:03.61). In his final race of the day he won by over
two full seconds. Occidental defeated Cal Lutheran 124-92.
Joining Dovey on the relay were freshman
Zachary Condon and seniors Jack
Hans and Cameron Carlson. These three
went on to sweep the 100 backstroke, led by Condon who finished in
58.28 ahead of senior teammates Carlson (1:01.13) and Hans
(1:04.00).
Occidental sophomore Ross
Miner won the 50 free in 23.25 with Carlson just behind in
third at 23.51.
Mike Wong opened his senior
season by claiming a victory in the 1000 free in a time of
10:58.25, beating his next closest opponent by 24 seconds.
Junior Matt Harter out
touched CLU's Jake Kaija in the 200 free with a time of
1:51.13 and was also victorious in the 100 butterfly, hitting the
wall in a time of 54.58.
On Saturday, Nov. 15 the Tigers will compete
against the Alumni at Taylor Pool as part of the Homecoming
festivities, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
