LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 12, 2008) –
The defending Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference champion Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens handed the Occidental
College Tigers a 15-11 loss today at Taylor pool in league play.
Oxy fell behind early as the Hens opened up a
5-2 first quarter lead. They extended that advantage to 8-2 before
the Tigers clawed back into the game on a pair of goals from
freshman Julie Monday. The second of her three
goals on the day came on a missed shot that hit the crossbar,
landing in her hand, which she quickly released into the back of
the net, pulling the score to 9-4.
PP doubled up Oxy 10-5 at the break and
continued on their tear in the third period, adding four goals to
the Tigers' two.
Occidental added four goals in the final
quarter of play. Ashley Notti scored the final
goal of the game for the Tigers with a fraction of a second
remaining, but came up just short.
Kelly Curtain, Sarah Boehler
and Notti each added a pair of goals in the game. The freshman duo
of Karie Nickle and Perla Almaraz
added the final two scores of the game for the Tigers.
Pomona-Pitzer's Laura Condron, the 2007
SCIAC Player of the Year, scored five goals to lead all players on
the day.
Occidental falls to 13-12, 2-3 in SCIAC play
while the Sagehens improve to 8-6 overall, 3-1 in conference
action.
The Tigers will be back in the pool on
Wednesday, April 16 at Caltech for their second to last first round
game of 2008.
