LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 9, 2008) –
Although the Tigers hung in the game, Cal Lutheran University
handed the Tigers a 13-11 loss today in Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Taylor Pool.
Despite playing without goalie Laura
Simanonok the Tigers battled with the reigning Collegiate
III National Champion Regals, chipping away at an 8-2 deficit to
pull the score to 9-5 at halftime.
CLU opened a 5-2 lead in the first quarter
adding a 3-0 run early in the second period to take a five goal
lead. Oxy never backed down, chipping away with three goals in the
second pulling the game within a pair at 10-8 with 3:32 to go in
the third period. Back-to-back CLU goals, put the Regals back up by
four entering the final quarter of play.
Oxy scored three goals to CLU's one, but
came up just short of the victory today.
Becky Hofer and Haley
Rosehill shared time in the goal during the absence of
Simanonok recording two and six blocks, respectively.
Freshman Karie Nickle again
led the offense for the Tigers, scoring five goals adding a pair of
steals and a drawn ejection. Danielle Montenegro
scored three while Julie Monday, Kelly
Curtain and Sarah Boehler netted one goal
apiece to round out the scoring. Curtain and junior center
Ashley Notti each dished out a pair of assists.
Notti also had a pair of
steals while recording the only field block of the game for the
Tigers. Boehler, Nickle , Montenegro and Rosehill, who played both
in the field and in front of the cage today,
each stole the ball from the Regals twice.
Katie Windsor, the Regals goalie, made 10
saves. Seven different CLU players contributed to the offense with
Meredith Butte scoring five and Joy Cyprian adding three. CLU
played stellar defense throughout, led by Jill Jensen and Marianne
Paradowski.
Oxy falls to 13-11, 2-2 in SCIAC action. CLU
remains unbeaten in SCIAC action at 3-0 and improve to 10-11
overall.
Occidental will host Pomona-Pitzer on
Saturday, April 12 for another exciting SCIAC game at Taylor Pool
beginning at 11:00 a.m.
