ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 24, 2008) – Occidental posted a 4-0
victory over Caltech on the Lower Soccer Field in Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play
today.
In
the 33rd minute Aaron Mun got the Tigers on the board and in the
87th minute he found Liam Dixon
for an assist on the
final score of the game.
Gilbert Ortega also recorded both a goal and an
assist. His goal came on a feed from freshman James
Kornfield in
the 44th minute of play. Just seconds later the Tigers
attempted to score and a Caltech player skipped the ball past the
Beavers goalie off Ortega.
First year goalkeeper Matt
Yavorsky made
seven saves in his first collegiate start. Caltech managed to fire
off 12 shots throughout the game.
Occidental took 31 shots and had 10 corner
kick opportunities. The Beavers goalie, Grayson Chadwick, made 15
saves and put up a solid performance for CIT.
The
Tigers improve to 2-3 overall, 2-1 SCIAC while the Beavers fall to
0-6-1, 0-3.
Oxy
will be back on the field Saturday morning Sept. 27 when they host
the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 11:00 a.m. on the Lower Soccer
Field.
