LOS
ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2008) – On a hot, sunny Southern
California Saturday afternoon the Occidental College Tigers held
off the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens to gain a 3-2 victory in an exciting
SCIAC game on the Lower Soccer Field.
Just before the mid-way point of the game
sophomore Rob Riccardi broke away from the rest of the players on
the field and found the back of the net to give the Tigers a 1-0
halftime lead.
Pomona-Pitzer stormed back with a goal by
Andrew Stamm on an assist from Zach Burke in
the 49th minute to knot the game at 1-1.
The
teams battled before senior forward Fran Taylor
scored on an assist from
freshman James Kornfield, in the 66th minute giving the
Tigers a 2-1 advantage. Oxy quickly added to its lead in the
70th minute when Taylor and Deryck Lim
combined to feed a pass
to Riccardi who added his second score of the game and the ultimate
winning goal, putting Oxy up by a 3-1 margin.
The
Hens cut the deficit to one with a 78th minute goal from
Dylan Farrell with an assist from Stamm, but that was all the
scoring that this game would see.
PP
outshot Oxy 24 to 15 in the contest with Charlie Balter and
freshman Andrew Larkin recording five and 10 saves in front of his
respective goal.

1-1-1.
