LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 1, 2009) –
While every player scored, Julie Monday and
Rebecca Hofer scored three goals apiece to lead
the Occidental College Tigers to a 19-1 victory over Caltech today
in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action
at Taylor Pool today.
The No. 2 ranked Tigers jumped out to an early
5-0 lead in the opening stanza of action before tacking on five
more goals prior to the break for a 10-1 advantage. Karie
Nickle got things started with a goal in the opening
minute of action, scoring twice in the first quarter. Freshman
Helen Zukin added a pair in the second quarter for
the Tigers.
After the intermission freshman Tessa
Bailey-Findley added two goals and in the final period
Monday scored twice, pushing her total to three.
The Tigers scored nine unanswered goals in the
final half of play, cruising to their eleventh win of the season.
Hofer scored in three different quarters for the Tigers. Also
netting a pair were seniors Haley Rosehill and
Kelly Curtain. Freshman Corinne
Casey scored once while supplying the Tigers with a
team-high three assists, adding three steals. Casey and
Perla Almaraz each scored in her only attempt of
the game.
Overall Oxy stole the ball 22 times, Nickle
leading the charge with four while Bailey-Findley, Curtain and
Delia Haynes tallied three apiece. Haynes and
Rosehill each recorded a field block as well.
Guarding the goals today was freshman
Andrea Savage who blocked four shots.
Occidental (11-8, 2-0 SCIAC) will jump back
into the pool on Saturday when they travel to Redlands, Calif. to
take on the Bulldogs who are currently 10-13, 2-0 SCIAC and ranked
No. 7 in Division III. Teams will take off for the first sprint at
11:00 a.m.
