THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Sept. 23, 2009) – After opening the
conference schedule with a win, the Occidental College men's
soccer team has seen a slide, having dropped back-to-back games on
the road. Today the California Lutheran University Kingsmen got the
best of the Tigers in a shut-out.
Occidental had plenty of scoring opportunities, shooting 15
times, but only three were on target, each of which was diverted by
CLU goalie Chris Capellini. The Kingsmen got the upper hand in both
shots (18) and shots on goal (eight).
The scoring all happened in the first half with the first and
ultimate winning goal coming just nine minutes into play. Raul
Yepez, who had two goals, scored both unassisted. The third CLU
goal came from Connor Pearce on an assist from Brad
Hendrickson.
For the Tigers Kosa Goucher-Lambert led the
attack with four shots while Daniel Watson had
three changes. Nolan Borgman and James
Kornfield finished with two shots apiece in the loss.
Oxy goalies Ian Powell and Andrew
Larkin shared time in front of the cage, making two saves
each.
Occidental will travel to Claremont, Calif. on
Saturday as they face off with the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 11:00
a.m.
