CLAREMONT, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2009) – An early, unassisted
goal by the Tigers' Skylar Roush was unable
to hold up as the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens used a three-goal, second
half surge, to power past Occidental College, 3-1, in their final
contest of a three-game road stand.
Things were promising early for the black and orange as
Roush found the back of the net in the 13th minute of
action. After maintaining the 1-0 lead into the intermission,
unfortunately for the Tigers, the Sagehens came back strong in the
second half.
In the 56th minute Pomona-Pitzer tied things up
and in the 72nd minute they took a lead they would not
relinquish. The Sagehens added an insurance goal in the
88th minute to round out the scoring in the
match.
Oxy was out-shot 15-10 although each team earned three
corner kicks. Occidental goalie, Ian Powell, held
an edge in saves with three to the two by the PP keeper.
The Tigers (2-5, 1-3 SCIAC) return to the friendly
confines of the Lower Soccer Field on Wednesday, Sept. 30 as they
host the Beavers from Caltech (0-4, 0-3 SCIAC) at 4:00 p.m.
