Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 16, 2010) – Last Wednesday the
Black and Orange stretched their unbeaten streak to nine games.
This afternoon on the Lower Soccer Field the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Athenas denied the Tigers the opportunity to push that streak to
double figures as the women's soccer team suffered its first
loss in SCIAC play as they had not been beaten since Sept. 11. CMS
rallied late to steal a 2-1 win from the Tigers, who led 1-0 at the
intermission.
In an evenly matched game, CMS took 18 shots while Oxy was
credited with 12, each team firing off seven first half attempts.
The Athenas earned seven corner kicks to the Tigers' two,
though.
Occidental freshman Kellee Murayama found the
back of the CMS net in the ninth minute with an unassisted goal to
get things started. In the contest she had three shots, all on
goal.
Things remained scoreless until the 68:15 mark at which time
Chrysanthia Cheung-Lau knotted the game at 1-1. CMS then went ahead
in the 82nd minute when Laura Hagen scored her fifth
goal of the season, which also served as the game winner.
CMS goalie Hannah Dunham finished with six saves in 90 minutes
while Oxy keeper Robin Feldman turned away nine
Athenas' shots.
Occidental (8-2-2, 6-1-1 SCIAC) will travel to Pomona-Pitzer
(4-6, 2-5) on Wednesday, Oct. 20 as they look to return to their
winning ways. The Tigers and Sagehens will kick off at 4:00
p.m.
