CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2010) – Back on the road, the
Occidental College women's soccer team returned to their winning
ways, defeating the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 1-0 on Wednesday
afternoon in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference action.
In an evenly matched game each team fired off 12 shots, but the
difference came in the 81st minute when Oxy freshman
Elissa
Minamishin scored her seventh goal of the season,
which also served as the game winner.
Pomona-Pitzer was slightly more on target today keeping senior
goalie Robin Feldman
on her toes as she turned away 10 Sagehens' shots. Six of those
came in the first half, with four additional saves in the final 45
minute period.
Oxy took six shots on goal with Minamishin leading the attack
tallying a pair as she finished with four total shots. Liz
Martin had three chances, none of which were at the cage.
Alex
Nicholson, Alex Horn and Kate
Corell-Buss each had one shot, on goal, in the
game.
PP finished with five corner kicks while the Tigers earned just
one.
The defense of Season
Falkler-Rodriguez, Bree Geary, Maddy Rasch and
Andrea Loh preserved the Tigers' sixth shutout of
the fall.
Occidental (9-2-2, 7-1-1 SCIAC) locked up a spot in the SCIAC
Poet Season Touranment with the victory. On Saturday evening, Oct.
23, the Black and Orange will host the Whittier College Poets on
Patterson Field for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. Prior to the game Oxy
will recognize and honor its three seniors.
