Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2010) – After playing to a 1-1 double overtime tie in the first meeting between the Tigers and Bulldogs this season, the host University of Redlands defeated the Occidental College 4-0, on their senior night, in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this evening at Farquhar Field.
No. 22 Redlands got on the board quickly when Jamie Griffin, last week's SCIAC Athlete of the Week, scored the ultimate winning goal on a dual assist from Sean Cruz and Cody Carlson less than 10 minutes into the first half. The Tigers' defense from Oliver Field, Douglas Pentland, Reid Sakamoto and Max Murtaugh kept the Maroon and Gray off the board for the remainder of the opening stanza.
After the intermission, UR again wasted no time, as Ethan Low assisted Danny Day in the 56th minute from 35 yards out on a penalty kick. Ten minutes later UR used one of their nine corner kicks to cushion the UR lead. Alex Laughton added an another insurance goal in the 85th minute to lock in the win for the Bulldogs.
Occidental got just seven shots off, with Goucher-Lambert, Marcus Brandford and Alex Duvoisin each recording one shot on goal. Oxy had three corner kicks in the game. Overall UR tallied 17 shots in the contest.
The 2010 season will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 30 when Occidental (5-10-2, 5-6-2 SCIAC) hosts the Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen (3-12-2, 3-9-1) on Patterson Field at 7:00 p.m. Earlier this season the teams played to a double overtime 0-0 tie. Prior to the game Oxy's seven seniors will be recognized.
