Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2010) - In the final game of the 2010 season for Occidental College, the Tigers were able to come away with a 1-0 victory over the visiting Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen. Not only was it the final game of the season, it was the final game of seven of the Tigers' collegiate careers, as Oxy recognized the group of seniors before the game. Each of the seniors was accompanied by members of their families and started tonight's contest.
The first half was high intensity, as senior Occidental goal keeper Ian Powell was kept active in the box completing five saves for the Tigers throughout the match. On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers had many scoring opportunities. Ben Murray led the Tigers with five shots, one of which was a header that missed high off the crossbar. But, he was finally able to score with less than three minutes left in the first half, off of an assist by Micah Farver. The goal sparked the Tigers bench and received an uproar from the fans in the stadium.
The intensity did not die down going into the second half. Great plays were made on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field by Rob Riccardi, James Kornfield, Will Moseley and Oliver Field. Mosely got the crowd out of their seats late in the second half, with a diving header, that just missed the goal to the right.
A determined Occidental defense was able to maintain composure throughout the match, keeping Cal Lutheran scoreless, allowing only five shots on goal.
Oxy bids farewell to six four-year letter winners in Powell, Riccardi, CJ Grigoriadis, Kosa Goucher-Lambert, Deryck Lim, Max Murtaugh and Skylar Roush.
Occidental concluded their season with a record of 6-10-2, 6-6-2 in SCIAC play.
