Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 9, 2010) – The Occidental
College Tigers came back from a 1-0 deficit to claim a 2-1 victory
over the Caltech Beavers today, on Patterson field in Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Beavers found the back of the net first, with Brice Nzeokou
scoring the first goal of the game just over 17 minutes into the
first half.
Despite being down 1-0 at the intermission, the Tigers'
Rob Riccardi, scored quickly off of a corner kick
in the second half to tie the score at 1-1. Ben
Murray then followed with the go-ahead goal, during minute
64, which was assisted by Riccardi.
After a virtually even opening stanza in which each team fired
off six shots, Oxy peppered the CIT goal with 17 second half shots
finishing with 11 on target. Caltech goalie Marcus Lucas turned
away nine shots. Murray led the attack with seven shots, four on
goal, with Riccardi trying four times with both Ian
Silverness and Nitzan Sherman earning a
trio of chances apiece.
The Tigers defense showed their presence, holding the Beavers to
nine shots, five of which were on goal, with Oxy keeper Ian
Powell making four saves.
Saturday's victory pushes the Black and Orange unbeaten
streak to five with a trio of wins and a pair of ties. Oxy now
holds a 4-4-2 overall record with a 4-1-2 SCIAC mark this
fall.
The Tigers will meet UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, Oct. 10 at
12:00pm.
