POMONA, Calif. (Mar. 31, 2010) – After a seven game home
stand, the Black and Orange traveled to Pomona Pitzer for a
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup
with the Sagehens. Falling behind 7-2, the Tigers battled
back to cut the lead to two at 8-6, but the rally stalled as the
host squad finished on a 6-0 run to send Oxy home on the wrong end
of a 14-6 decision.
A tight first half ended with the Tigers behind 4-2, with
both goals being scored by Sarah Kessler, but the
low scoring affair left both teams with questions heading into the
second half.
The Sagehens seemed to have all the answers to start the half,
scoring three straight goals to put the Tigers in a seemingly
insurmountable 7-2 deficit.
The Black and Orange were not going away just yet, as
Shannon Docherty found the back of the net three
times as the Tigers mounted a 4-2 run to cut the lead to 8-6.
That was as close as Oxy would come, as the Sagehens held the
Tigers scoreless for the final 13 minutes of the game, while
punching in six straight goals to secure the SCIAC victory.
The Tigers (1-8, 0-3) return to the friendly confines of
Patterson Field to face the Bulldogs in SCIAC play this Saturday,
April 3rd, with the opening draw scheduled for 1pm.
