LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 3, 2010) – In a rematch of the
season opener, the Black and Orange came out ready for the
Bulldogs, after suffering a humbling 18-3 defeat in the first game
of the season the Tigers took the field a different team this
afternoon. After what started out much like the first game,
with the University of Redlands jumping out to a 7-1 lead, the
Tigers came alive and showed how far they have come, playing the
Maroon and Gray almost even the rest of the way, falling by a
final score of 21-15.
After trailing 7-1 the Tigers came alive behind the stellar play
of Isabel Osgood-Roach, who started the rally by
punching in two of the next three Tiger scores. Sandwiched
around a goal by Lucy Vallejo-Anderson, and what
looked like a blowout, was now a game.
After cutting the lead to three, the Bulldogs responded with a
three score run of their own, to push the lead back to six.
But once again, the Black and Orange showed their resolve,
firing off a 6-1 run to cut the lead to just one.
The run spanned two halves, as Sarah Kessler
ignited the run with 7:33 left in the first half.
Lauren Wemple and Emily Philips
notched two more before time expired. But momentum
accompanied the Tigers into halftime, and was still wearing an Oxy
jersey when play resumed, as Kessler combined with Osgood-Roach for
three more goals.
As the officials prepared for the draw, the scoreboard on
Patterson Field read 11-10 in favor of the Bulldogs, but was
clearly a sign of how far this young program has come as the Black
and Orange had battled back to get back in this game.
But the experience factor still favored Redlands, as the Tigers
started to press, and the Maroon and Gray allowed the game to come
to them and began to pull away.
Osgood-Roach fired in three more goals late, finishing the day
with eight, but it was to little to late as Redlands held to large
of an advantage, and stayed in second place in the Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings with the
21-15 decision.
The Black and Orange (1-9, 0-4) now travel to
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to take on the Athenas on Saturday, April
10th, with the opening draw scheduled for 1:00pm.
