PASADENA, Calif. (April 3, 2010) – Nine different players
scored and the Occidental College defense practically shut down the
Caltech Beavers as the women's water polo team cruised to a
19-1 victory on the road in Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference play today.
Freshman Tessa Mariano-Brofferio led the
offensive attack, scoring a career-high four goals, followed by
hat-tricks from Tessa Bailey-Findley and
Rebecca Hofer who found the back of the net on
each shot she took.
Karie Nickle and Nanea
Fujiyama each scored twice on just two shots apiece as
well. Danielle Garcia added a pair of goals as
well. Bailey Findley finished with a team-high four assists.
Defensively, Nickle came away with six steals while
Bailey-Findley tallied five. Corinne Casey chipped
in with four steals and Lauren Howart finished
with three. In front of the cage, Rachel Adeleye
blocked seven shots and allowed just one goal.
The Tigers remain undefeated in SCIAC play at 2-0 and improve to
8-13 overall. On Saturday, April 10 the Black and Orange will
travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to face off with the Athenas at
11:00 a.m.
