Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 12, 2010) – A pair of late
goals was exactly the spark that the Tigers needed this afternoon
on the Lower Soccer Field, but it was one too few as Occidental
College fell to visiting Chapman University 3-2 in non-conference
action.
In the first minute of play the Black and Orange found
themselves in a deficit after Dalton Sweaney found Cody Mansfield
for the first score of the game. Chapman went on to ass a second in
the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
After the break it was a game of penalty kicks.
The Panthers had the first strike at it, when Sweaney scored in
the 64th minute with the ultimate winning goal.
Oxy would add a pair of PK's by way of Reid Sakamoto and Ben Murray in the
77th and 88th minutes, respectively.
Each team fired off 14 shots but Chapman earned 13 corner kicks
to the Tigers' nine. Chris Liotta made seven
saves in the game as he was in front of the cage for all 90
minutes.
Occidental falls to 0-3 on the season. Wednesday, Sept. 15 the
Tigers travel over the Caltech where they will open Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at 4:00
p.m.
