LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2010) – Occidental
College's men's soccer team opened up Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on a high note.
A change of scenery was seemingly just what the Tigers'
needed. In their first game away from the Lower Soccer Field, the
Black and Orange were victorious, 1-0, over Caltech this
afternoon.
A 28th minute goal from senior captain Kosa Goucher-Lambert was all the offense the game would see as
neither team took too many shots.
Corner kicks and fouls, on the other hand, were heavy on both
sides. Occidental earned 11 corner kicks, five in the first half
and six in the final 45 minute period. Caltech walked away with
six.
Oxy combined for 21 combined fouls and offside calls while
Caltech forced the refs to blow the whistle 11 times for fouls.
The Tigers looked to Chris Liotta to guard the
cage this afternoon. He turned away both shots on goal and led the
Black and Orange to their first win and shutout of 2010.
Occidental (1-3, 1-0 SCIAC) return to Eagle Rock on Saturday,
Sept. 18 when they host the University of La Verne under the lights
on Patterson Field. Teams will kick off at 7:00 p.m. A live video
broadcast will be available for those fans not able to join us
on campus Saturday night.
