Box Score ORANGE, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2010) – In a battle of the cats
on the soccer field tonight, Occidental College came away
victorious, defeating host Chapman University 2-1 in non-conference
action.
An early goal for CU, in the second minute of play, put the
Tigers in a hole, but not for long. Fourteen minutes later the Oxy
duo of Elissa Minamishin and Alex
Nicholson connected to knot the game at 1-1. Minamishin, a
freshman forward, earned her first assist in college as Nicholson
punched in her first goal of 2010.
In the 85th minute Liz Martin found
the back of the net in unassisted fashion for her second goal of
the year, marking the winning goal.
Guarding the cage today was Robin Feldman who
played all 90 minutes. She turned away eight Chapman shots, six in
the first half, a pair in the second. Each team fired off 16 shots,
although CU tallied nine on goal while Oxy tallied just six. With
no corner kicks in the first half, the Tigers earned three in the
final 45 minutes of regulation.
With the win, Occidental improves to 2-1 overall as they prepare
for their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
opener on the road against the University of La Verne. In another
battle between the cats, the Tigers and Leopards will face off at
1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.
