CLAREMONT, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2010) – Occidental College
recorded back-to-back victories with a 2-1 win over the
Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens today on the road in Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
In the 20th minute of play on a free kick
James Kornfield found Marcus Brandford who used one touch to push the ball into the
net, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Twelve minutes later Brandford again scored for the Black and
Orange, with the ultimate winning goal.
Oxy held the Saghenes scoreless until a penalty kick in the
83rd minute. Ian Powell blocked five
Hens' shots in the contest as PP fired off 12 shots to the
Tigers' seven. Pomona-Pitzer also earned more corner kicks,
10-3.
Occidental improves to 3-4 overall with a 3-1 SCIAC mark.
Wednesday, Sept. 29 the Tigers will host the Whittier College Poets
at the Lower Soccer Field for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off.
