LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 28, 2010) – After getting blown
out in game one, the Tigers battled back to hold leads late in the
final three sets, but saw those leads slip away late in the third
and fourth sets as Cal Lutheran University left Rush Gymnasium with
a 25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 27-25 win to move into sole possession of
first place in the conference.
The Regals smashed home 18 kills in the opening set as the Black
and Orange never seemed comfortable, a step behind the quicker
visiting squad, and it looked as if this battle for first place
would be over very quickly.
But the young Tigers recovered quickly, jumping out to a big
lead in the second stanza, only to have to hold off a huge rally by
Cal Lu. Stephanie
Gann smashed home the final kill to deadlock the match
at one set apiece.
Oxy held leads late in the final two sets, including a 16-10
lead in the fourth set, only to fade as the Regals stormed back to
take control of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference race with the win as Cal Lu (9-3, 4-0) now sits all
alone at the top of the standings.
The Regals Allison Kerr led all attackers with 19 kills.
Oxy was led by Logan
Boyer-Hayse who had 17 kills and 25 digs.
The Tigers (10-2, 3-1) fall into a tie with Claremont Mudd
Scripps for second place in the conference. Oxy will now
shift its focus to Whittier College, as they travel to Whittier
this Friday (October 1st), first serve is scheduled for
7:30pm.
