LOS ANGELES, Calif. – After starting off the game by allowing Linfield College to obtain a quick 1-0 lead, Occidental responded ten seconds later and never looked back in a dominating 17-5 performance.
The Tigers demanded control of the game, fighting for ten of the first half draw controls, allowing only four to the visiting Wildcats. Leading in draw controls was midfielder Rebecca Belding, who secured five for the Tigers.
Tigers midfielder Tori Larson had a season high six goals, while sophomore Zoey Adams connected on three goals, obtaining her first hat-trick of the season.
Occidental showed aggressiveness on both sides of the field with 29 shot attempts and causing the Wildcats to turn the ball over 20 times. Belding contributed to the tough defensive effort with four caused turn-overs, as teammates Mary Morrissey, Charlotte Bromely, Abigail Williams and Adams each caused one.
Occidental led Linfield in ground balls as Haley Gandsey, Bromely and Belding each accounted for four and Adams for three.
Tigers Goalie, Kylie McPherson, had a season high seven saves on the game, securing the win for the Tigers. McPherson was relieved with about ten minutes left in the game by freshman goalie Annika Awbrey. Awbrey would get four saves in the remaining minutes, seeing a total of six shots from the Linfield offense.
Occidental (3-5, 0-1 SCIAC) will look to continue their winning ways against No. 8 Buffalo State Sunday, March 27th. First draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
