PASADENA, Calif. — Freshmen Tyler Eng and Traylor White each scored their first career goals as Tigers, leading the Occidental College men's soccer team to a 4-0 road win over Cal Tech on Wednesday.
White was the first into the record books in the 16th minute on an assist from Eng, then Eng followed with the game's fourth goal early in the second half.
"I was glad our guys came in with a positive attitude and I was glad to get some different guys some playing time," Occidental College coach Rod Lafaurie said. "There were a lot of firsts today which is a positive."
Sophomore Marcus Brandford was on that list, scoring the first goal of the game and his first goal of the season.
The third goal of the game was scored as an own goal off of a Cal Tech defender on one of Occidental's 15 corner kicks. The Tigers tallied 14 shots to Cal Tech's four.
The win is a confidence booster for the Tigers (1-2, 1-0) as the SCIAC season gets underway. Oxy ends a four-game road stretch to open the season and continues conference play at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday before returning to Los Angeles for their first home game Sept. 21 against La Verne.
"It's going to be a very good test to see how we've progressed so far," Lafaurie said. "And it's against a team that could win the conference championship."
