THOUSAND OAKS — For the second game in a row, the Occidental College men's soccer team just couldn't find the net and this time it will cost them a chance at the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

The Tigers (7-8, 6-8 SCIAC) totaled 21 shots — eight on goal — and nine corner kicks, but they came away scoreless in a 1-0 loss at Cal Lutheran on Monday.

Oxy now sits in sixth, trailing Whittier by six points for the fourth-and-final SCIAC Postseason Tournament playoff spot with two games to play.

Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps can all still win a share of the SCIAC regular season championship, but there is no scenario where either Redlands or Pomona-Pitzer doesn't finish above CMS, and with the next relevant tiebreaker between Oxy and Whittier being head-to-head competition against the league's top teams one at a time, the Tigers can't finish fourth for tournament seeding purposes. Whittier has the better record against Redlands and Pomona-Pitzer with a win against each school. Oxy went 0-2 against both.

The Sagehens can clinch the SCIAC regular season crown with points against Caltech on Wednesday.

Last week Oxy's offense was on fire. The Tigers scored 13 goals — eight against Caltech and five in a dramatic 5-4 overtime win over Whittier. But they were blanked on Saturday night in a 1-0 loss to Pomona and again against the Kingsmen on Saturday.

Jack Day (London, England) led Oxy with seven shots, four of them on target. John Richardson (Palo Alto) had four shots, two on goal, and Reid Sakamoto (Honolulu) got off three with one on the frame.

Raul Sanchez found Ivan Sanchez for a header on a corner kick in the 30th minute for the game-winning goal.

Oxy goalkeeper Ian Agrimis (Portland, Ore.) made three saves.

For Oxy, there is still plenty to play for. The Tigers can finish as high as fourth place, which would be Oxy's best finish in years.

The Tigers host La Verne in their senior game on Wednesday at Jack Kemp Stadium at 7 p.m. and then finish the season at Chapman on Oct. 27.
