LOS ANGELES – Three first-half goals from Cal Lutheran proved to be too much to overcome for the Occidental College women's soccer team as they fell 4-0 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.
Occidental (1-5, 0-4 SCIAC) registered the match's first shot on goal when Grace Bender (East Greenwich, R.I.) struck the ball in the 14thminute but Cal Lu's goalkeeper Kristin Bailey managed to make the save.
Cal Lutheran (7-1, 4-0 SCIAC) scored the first goal of the game 15 minutes into the match when Taylor Will drove a shot past Oxy goalkeeper Tayler Renshaw (Phoenix, Ariz.).
Renshaw collected three saves for the Tigers.
The Regals struck again in the 24th minute when Kristina Hulse pushed her attempt past Renshaw and Nicole Rains added another goal in the 42nd minute to give Cal Lu a three-goal lead heading into the break.
Dual-sport star Rachel Adeleye (Maplewood, N.J.) made her second appearance of the season in the second half and saved a shot attempt.
Cal Lu recorded the final tally just 54 seconds into the second half as Will found the back of the net for her second goal.
McCaully Patch (Laguna) added two shots for the Tigers.
The Tigers continue conference play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. as they host Pomona-Pitzer.
