REDLANDS — The bumpy start to the 2012 season didn't get much easier for the Occidental College football team on Saturday. The Tigers dropped their third game of the season and first SCIAC contest at Redlands 49-7.

Oxy (0-3, 0-1 SCIAC) was able to move the ball, particularly through the air, gaining 299 yards of total offense for 20 first downs. But the Tigers couldn't stop Redlands and their running game was anemic for the third straight week. The Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0 SCIAC) gained 630 yards of total offense and Oxy only gained 17 yards on the ground themselves.

Preseason All-American wide receiver Matthew Tuckness (Alamo) had 12 catches for 97 yards in his first full game of the year after missing most of the first two games with a hamstring injury. His running mate, Samuel Stekol (Mahattan Beach) had seven receptions for 90 yards

The Tigers fell behind 35-0 at halftime and didn't get on the board until quarterback Tommy Edwards (Sherman Oaks) scored his second rushing touchdown of the season on a quarterback sneak, on 4 and 1, with 3 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.  Edwards finished 31 for 56 with 268 yards passing.

Freshman running back Casey Dudley (Sacramento) had a career-high 44 yards, on seven carries, for the Tigers.

Peter Adams led the Bulldogs attack with 10 receptions for 221 yards and Redlands' quarterback Chad Hurst was 20 for 35 for 352 yards and three touchdowns.

Shay Mueller (El Dorado Hills) led the Tigers defense with nine tackles.

The Bulldogs now lead the all-time series between the schools 52-51 (two ties).

Oxy returns home to play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in Jack Kemp Stadium.
