PASADENAStefanie Young (Hong Kong) scored nine points in 12 minutes, Crystal Goodwin (Inglewood) added eight and the Tigers bench totaled 31 points as a group to lead the Occidental College women's basketball team to a 69-43 win at Caltech on Thursday.

With the victory, the Tigers (13-6, 8-2 SCIAC) stay even in the loss column with Cal Lutheran (18-3, 10-2 SCIAC) for the lead in the SCIAC standings, setting up a first-place showdown with the Regals at Rush Gymnasium on Saturday at 5 p.m.

"I was happy with the way our entire bench played in the second half," Occidental coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "This was a team victory tonight. Now the focus shifts to a big game on Saturday."

Both Goodwin and Young were 2 for 3 from the three-point line. Young scored all of her points in the second half.

Makenzie Brandon (Seattle, Wash.), the SCIAC's top scorer and reigning SCIAC Female Student-Athlete of the Week, scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Liz Little (Littleton, Colo.), the league's leader in assists, dished out four in the game's first 10 minutes.

Oxy held just an 11-point lead around the 15-minute mark in the second half before Little buried a three, Elizabeth Messick (Reno, Nev.) hit an elbow jumper and Brandon converted an and-one layup, putting Oxy up 45-26 just moments later.

In the second half, Annika Awbrey (Saratoga), Kristen Treat (Riverside), Brittni Walker (Castaic) and Ashton Reid (Los Angeles) all got into the scorebook with points. Treat hit her first career three on a kick out from the top of the key with 8 minutes left.

Caltech's Stephanie Wong led the game with 16 points — 10 of them in the first half — on 6 for 20 shooting from the field and 4 for 15 from the three-point line. Grace Leishman added eight points for the Beavers (1-19, 0-11 SCIAC).

Defensively, the Tigers pressed, played zone and went man-to-man in preparation for Cal Lu. The first time the teams met earlier this year in Thousand Oaks, the Tigers had a 14-point lead late in the second half, but the Regals put together a comeback victory.
