Box Score LOS ANGELES — Sometimes in soccer if you spend too much energy trying to score and come up empty-handed, you pay for it later on.
The Occidental men's soccer team was all over Chapman for the first 15 minutes on Saturday. Oxy had two corners and four shots in the first 5 minutes alone and a handful of other great chances.
But each attempt came without a result and the Tigers edge faded in a 3-0 loss to Chapman at Lower Field.
The Tigers fall to 2-9 overall and 1-7 in SCIAC play. Chapman goes to 6-4-2 and 4-3-1.
Oxy's two best opportunities were both in the 15th minute. Christian Buchmann wasn't able to connect a sliding attempt on a cross from Morgan Bennett-Smith and just moments later John Richardson missed a 1-on-1 with the keeper just wide right.
Chapman found the net on their third attempt in the 24th minute, when Mikey Stoddard buried a pass from Chris Darling, deflating an Oxy side that had controlled the tempo and had too many great opportunities to count early on.
Nick Echeverry scored Chapman's second goal in the 54th minute on a nifty touch to his right foot and a far-post shot that hugged the grass.
The Panthers' third goal came in the 83rd min on an unassisted score by Duncan Capriotti.
The Tigers return to action against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Jack Kemp Stadium on Monday at 7 p.m.
