LOS ANGELES — When the Occidental women's soccer team plays a game, it's going to come down to the wire. Tayler Renshaw was superb in goal for the Tigers and Oxy's defense withstood 11 corner kicks and 17 shots by Redlands to muster a 0-0 draw in their sixth overtime match of the season.
Renshaw was able to save many close range shots and also received great help from her backline. All-SCIAC defender Taryn Ng and her center back partner Stephanie Welty won most balls that came their way. Kelsey Hung and Abigail Mitchell were also good on the outside.
The best chance for Redlands in the first half came in the 17th minute. Renshaw thwarted Tanya Hagen's shot from the right corner of the box, and Redlands defender Amy Pumputis shanked the rebound. Jennifer Franklin almost scored in the last minute of the first half when her shot from the mouth of the goal was saved by Renshaw again.
The best chance for the Tigers came moments later in the 19th minute. After receiving a pass at the top of the box, freshman forward Julie Khil turned a fired a shot right to Redlands keeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab.
Renshaw was stellar again in the second half. In the 64th minute, she came off her line to save a shot inside the box from Savannah Laursen.
Redlands thought they had to winner in the 107th minute. After a cross was hit to the top of the box, Erin Lau ripped a shot towards the left corner of the goal. Renshaw dove to her right and deflected the shot just wide.
The Tigers are now 1-3-2 in games with extra time. The Tigers (3-5-2) go on the road for their match to face Whittier on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
