Box Score PASADENA – Munraj Singh came through with his second goal of the season and Garrett Schwab scored his first as the Occidental College men's soccer team beat Caltech 2-0 on Saturday to end the season on a good note.
Set pieces turned out to be the difference. After peppering the Caltech goal for most of the game, a corner kick by Michael Tonetti found the feet of Singh and he blasted it into the upper net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute.
In the 88th, Garrett Schwab controlled another corner from Tonetti and pushed it past Caltech goalkeeper John David Feist to seal the victory for Oxy.
There were early opportunities to open the scoring for both sides. Christian Buchmann forced Feist to make a save just three minutes into the game and Daniel Lawson hit the crossbar in the 12th minute. Caltech's Alec Sands responded in the 14th minute when he had a shot inside the box saved by Oxy's Tristan Cooper.
Cooper and Theo Atkinson—who manned the goal in the second half—combined for a clean sheet, making five total saves.
Tonetti was active all game. The sophomore winger posted three shots on goal in addition to the two assists.
The final score could have been more lopsided. The Tigers outshot the Beavers 21 to 12, with six players registering multiple shots on goal each, and earned a staggering 16 corner kicks to Caltech's one.
Oxy finishes the season 3-16 overall and 2-14 in SCIAC.
