LOS ANGELES — Katelyn Rowe (Carlsbad) recorded her first career triple double in her last career home game, Makenzie Brandon (Seattle, Wash.) added to her Occidental career scoring record and five seniors finished their careers at Rush Gymnasium with a 92-50 rout of Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
It seemed like every Pomona-Pitzer shot that went up near the basket was blocked by Rowe as the senior sent back 10 total and had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Brandon, who came into the game with 1,513 career points, scored a game-high 21 points, further adding to her All-American case.
Marquisha Corley (Tucson, Ariz.) scored 16 points in her final night wearing the white Oxy jersey, Liz Little (Littleton, Colo.) was solid — eight points, four assists and two threes — just as she's been her entire four years as a Tiger and senior Stephanie Scamman added nine points, four assists and a pair of steals.
Each was subbed out one-by-one as the game got out of hand late in the second half, receiving huge ovations from a grateful crowd that shared three SCIAC Regular Season Championships with the group.
"I couldn't be more proud of a group of women and we are all so thankful for their contribution to Occidental basketball," Occidental coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said.
Now Oxy plays the waiting game. They must beat Whittier and then the simple flip of a coin determines whether or not they advance to the SCIAC tournament. If they do, they are definitely a team that not many will want to face. Oxy lost three of its conference games by a total of five points. Do the math and reverse that fortune and Oxy is sitting atop the SCIAC standings where they've been for five years in a row.
"There's nothing else we can do but take care of our own business by picking up a win at Whittier and then we will let the chips fall where they may," Aladzhanyan said. "Either way it's been a great run for our seniors and hopefully we can have one more go at this thing together."
The Tigers face the Poets on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
