LOS ANGELES — With less than 10 seconds remaining and her team trailing by one, Lauren Wemple (Needham, Mass.) found Haley Gandsey (Oakland) from behind the cage for the game-tying goal, sending the Occidental College women's lacrosse team's non-conference thriller with Colorado College into overtime.

It was a clutch play when their team needed it most.

But after neither team was able to score a goal in the first overtime period, Elise Burchard cut through the middle of the field in transition, caught a pass in front of the goal and put away the winner, giving Colorado College an 11-10 golden-goal win in 2OT at Jack Kemp Stadium on Sunday.

Rebecca Belding (Burlingame) setup three Oxy (5-7) goals and dumped in one herself. The junior midfielder hit Isabel Osgood-Roach (Portland, Ore.) twice and Tori Larson (Denver, Colo.) once for scores on cross-crease passes. Her dish to Larson tied the game at five with just seconds on the clock before halftime.

Oxy fell behind early in the second half, but Gandsey scored on a free position opportunity that sparked a 4-1 run to close out regulation. After Burchard, Ellie Cole and Madeline Pitkin scored to give Colorado College (3-7) an 8-5 lead with 27:06 remaining in the second, Gandsey buried her eight-meter opportunity with 18:29 left, turning the momentum in the Tigers favor. Osgood-Roach followed with two of her team-high three goals and Sarah Kessler (Portland, Ore.) added one of her two before Gandsey struck again to send the game into overtime.

Mackenzie Wright (Annandale, Virginia) was almost the hero for the Tigers when she scored what looked like the equalizer with around 1:30 left in the game, but she was whistled for a crease violation and the goal came off the scoreboard.

Madeline Pitkin scored a game-high four goals for Colorado College.

Gandsey and Monica Rosenkranz (Menlo Park) led the Tigers with four ground balls, Gandsey cause three turnovers and Beebe Finch Sanders (Berkeley) led with four draw controls. Wemple finished with two assists and two ground balls.

Oxy has a week off to prepare for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (6-6, 2-3 SCIAC) on April 6 and the rest of the SCIAC season. Oxy lost to CMS in its season opener 11-10 in Claremont.

The Tigers currently sit in a three-way tie for second, trailing Redlands (8-4, 4-1 SCIAC) by one game, with three of their remaining five games at home.
